So OVER… Madonna.

It’s been 25 years since the Queen of Pop has released her first self-titled album, ‘Madonna’ and now in 2008, there’s no slowing her down. This week, her 11th studio album ‘Hard Candy’ has shot straight into the number 1 slot in the United Kingdom, and the first single off this album ‘4 minutes’ in which she worked with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland is also at #1 for the second week.  Reinvention is her party act.

Over the years we have seen ‘Virgin Madonna’, ‘Ice Princess Madonna’, ‘Dance Madonna’, ‘Country Madonna’ (in which she donned a cowboy hat and boots.), ‘Erotica Madonna’, ‘Army Madonna’ and now…’R&B Madonna’.  At 50, she is proving age is only a number and has already signed a $200 million dollar contract with her record company to keep producing and writing records until she’s sixty. That’s four albums, and four more ways for Madonna to startle and amaze the public with her yoga moves.

This all looks very good on paper, but realistically… Is it not time for the Queen of Pop to hang up her crown? Yes her abs and arms are fantastic, but can her face REALLY take anymore botox? She very publicly announced during the last leg of her previous ‘Confession’ tour that she suffered from exhaustion. Can’t say that I’m surprised! In all her recent video, you can see her prancing around in leotards and short-shorts as if sixteen all over again. Madonna…PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!! No one wants to see her withering neck and protruding veins never mind the 50 year old doing the splits!! Her eldest child, Lourdes is nearly 11…Surely she’s coming into that age where embarrassment of her mother sets in?

This is a women who has sold over 200 million albums worldwide, so I find myself asking, if she is the superstar the world knows, why does she need the help of JT, Pharrell, Kanye West and Timbaland on her new album? Should they not be asking HER to producer with them instead of the other way around?

On March 10th of this year, after 25 years she was awarded a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also won a Grammy and a Golden Globe for her role in ‘Evita’. At an estimated worth of $400 million, she holds the position as ‘Worlds most successful musician’ in the Guinness World Records.

But her awards have not been without her own stunts. In 1992 she wrote ‘Sex’ – the extremely controversial sex book published by Warner books. Her past lovers include Americas biggest rap star of the 90’s, Vanilla Ice, Tony Ward (model and porn star), and was introduced to her current husband Guy Richie via Sting. In 1996 Madonna gave birth to Lourdes – her first child she had with personal trainer Carlos Leon. Her second child, this time around with Guy, was born in 2000 named Rocco. Then in 2003, the MTV Video Music Awards 2003 saw one of the biggest celebrity stunts ever pulled on live television. It was of course, Madonna kissing both Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears during their performance ‘Like a Virgin’.

In 2006, she adopted ‘David’ – a Malawi born child that stirred huge debate over adoption rights, and issue that she still appears in the tabloids for. She is probably most noted for her choice of Religion, and unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past 5 years you’ll know I am indeed talking about ‘Kabbalah.’

But Madonna is obviously not in it for the money anymore, so is her passion for music going to continue on until she cannot lip-sync a record? Is this woman, addicted to attention, media and entertaining?

I can see the headlines now…2060: ‘Madonna retires and now resides in her London home with her three children and husband.’

A very unlikely storyline.
