Now I was a little apprehensive when I heard about the Wii Fit at first – “Not another gimmick that claims to make working out fun!” was my initial thought.
Ahhh the amount of times I’ve fell for that one – I’m sorry, but I don’t find doing the same old workout, day after day, sweating all over the living room (lovely) the most pleasant experience ever. What’s even more infuriating is the looking at some girl with a lean, tanned torso bending and stretching cooing, “Just follow what I do – it’s easy!” Well sure, if I was getting paid bucketloads, there are a lot of things I’d say too.....like climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro in stilettos is a cinch. No bother.
But I digress! I took the plunge and bought Wii Fit......and was pleasantly surprised. This yoke really DOES make exercise fun! There are lots of Yoga and muscle exercises, Aerobics, and balance games which will keep one entertained for hours. Firstly, it measures your BMI and weight – it gives you the option of reaching a target weight also. Then you have to choose a personal trainer, be it male or female, who will guide you through how to do the Yoga and Muscle exercises (they’re good for the ego, with them saying things like “Your posture’s fantastic!” or “Don’t give up – you’re doing great!”)
My favourite activity is the Hula Hoop – you can either do a 3 minute or 10 minute version, great for the waist! The balance games are also great fun, if quite infuriating at times (try the one where you’re stuck in a bubble sailing down a river and you have to avoid a lot of spiky bits by balancing correctly, or else you burst and you lose – cue lots of swearing at the TV when you STILL can’t get to the end after 10 tries.)
My verdict overall? Fantastic fun for all the family. Get it today!
