My name is Lucy, and I'm currently studying journalism at Chester University. There are many things in life I enjoy, such as spending quality time with loved ones, writing and reading poetry, laughing at pointless stuff etc... One of my current pleasures is photography, both doing and looking! This may all sound rather active, but in truth, I like nothing more than to kick off my shoes, and curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea! So, due to "family and personal commitments", the Spice Girls have cancelled several dates.
The tour has continued longer than planned after extra dates were added to legs in The UK and Us. This meant that dates in Beijing, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires were rescheduled to be played at the end of the tour. These dates have now been cancelled.
There have been reports of a feud between the five-some, but the girls report on their website that family commitments have forced the tour to a premature end. However, if news reports are to be believed today, Mel C fears that to continue the tour will take its toll on her solo career.
Questions inevitably have to be asked. Why did the Spice Girls add dates in the UK and US if it meant postponing dates in other countries? Did they not think about family commitments before the tour was decided?
Perhaps they just earned all the money they wanted. Or perhaps I'm being pessimistic!
One thing is for certain, they have lost a lot of fans. Reading Spice Girls forums today, and there is outrage, especially in Australia. Fans point out how selfish the girls have been. They claim that there is no way the Spice Girls can really care about their fans. "So much for girl power" claims one fan.
Fans in the UK seem to be sympathetic to those in Australia and other countries...but then they would- they've seen them for extra dates in London that have caused this to happen!
The Official Spice Girls website says "We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next.” This means one of two things. They will make a new album to make more money, or nothing will happen!
Sorry Spice Girls fans. This is possibly the end.
