Juno
You should always be wary of a movie when the first time you hear about it is seeing Lynn Spears bringing Jamie Lynn to it a few days before her pregnancy is announced. And then the next thing you hear is 'this years Little Miss Sunshine'. Kind of being set up for a fall.
Besides from the above all I knew about it that it was a quirky tale about a 16 year old and her unplanned pregnancy but still it sparked my interest. So when the opening credits ran and I saw Jennifer Garner and Alison Janney, two favourites of mine, I was thinking to myself this could be a good one.
Juno, played by Ellen Page, is a funky, nerdy, not one of the cool kids, 16 year old who talks in the coolest way. In fact I would like to learn all her phrases and use them, she rocks! She has this deadpan humour going on with a vunerability underneath that immediately endears her to you. Anyway enough pop psychology for one day.
One day when bored Juno decides to have sex with her best friend Bleeker. Then after a mad scene in the drugstore she discovers she is pregnant and after a failed attempt to have an abortion, she decides to have the baby and the story goes from there.
There's the great scene when she is telling her parents and the exchanges between her and her friend Leah really hit home that they are just kids with more important things than babies on their minds!
Jennifer Garner is great as the uptight wannabe adoptive mom and Alison Janney plays the weirdo step mom to perfection. Ellen Page is brilliant in it, kudos to her :)
I would big time recommend this movie and its defintely not a chick flick, so the boys will definitely enjoy it too!
