British singer Leona Lewis hits number one stateside with her single 'Bleeding love'

Bleeding success!
Britain’s X Factor winner Leona Lewis continues to hit all the right notes as she topped the American Billboard music charts this week.

Not since Kim Wilde back in 1987, with her version of The Supreme’s ‘You keep me hangin’ on’, has a British female hit the number one spot in America.

Sales of her single ‘Bleeding love’ soared in the US following appearances on major American shows such as Oprah and Jay Leno. With Oprah calling Ms. Lewis, “the real deal,” and announcing to her audience “a star is born.”

There is no doubt that appearing on these shows seriously help Ms. Lewis reach number one.

However, you can not deny the popularity of this young songstress. The American audience has been captivated by the east Londoner’s talent, grace and innocent sense of how good she is.

‘Bleeding love’ is Leona’s first single from her album ‘Spirit’. ‘Spirit’ will be released in the US on April 4th.

After winning the X Factor Leona signed a £5 million record deal with American music mogul Clive Davis who discovered Whitney Houston.

Although she is making a huge impact on both sides of the Alantic this was not acknowledged at this years Brit Awards when the singer walked away empty-handed after being nominated for four awards.
