You walk out after watching Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem or AVP:R and you wonder just how much the scriptwriters and the producers are going to flog a dying horse. True, there was excitement – once. True, people were obsessed with the clash of the titans – once.

It’s a long movie. Three hours of action, anguish and angst. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it that much more poignant. Years ago, in the 60s and the 70s, a serial killer terrorized the people in North California. There seemed to be no method and no motive. The killer was never caught.

Any film claiming to be a sci-fi action film usually fits into one of two distinct categories. They can be a gun-heavy gore fest or choose show some frightening vision of our future. It is pretty rare to see them blend together though.

Just like a Simpsons episode back in the old days, Bee Movie mixes sight gags with witty dialogue and cultural references to give each viewer something to enjoy. At the centre, it also tries to express a good moral of respecting and caring for life no matter what form it takes.

Oh boy, it’s a Hollywood movie that has subtitles… Great. Thankfully, this movie doesn’t act like it is an automatic classic. At its core, The Kite Runner is a basic tale of good against evil. The background of a conflicted Afghanistan is just that, a background for the main story that has the universal morals of loyalty and integrity no matter what the circumstances.

I may be imagining it, but Woody Allen seems to have taken a morbid tone with most of his movies. He seems almost obsessed with death and odd accents. Cassandra’s Dream follows in the footsteps of his last two pieces, asking questions about the moral dilemmas that each person has to face.
